Do you listen to your patients - or their parents?
Article Abstract:
Physicians should be accessible and open to suggestions made by parents of child patients. Physicians who ignore parental suggestions do not facilitate good working relationships with either the parents or the patient. Parents should also have the foresight to take their children to different physicians or hospitals when treating physicians cannot help them. Additionally, training physicians can engender a closer working relationship with parents by letting them call you by your first name.

Managed competition and the physician surplus
Article Abstract:
A managed healthcare system may limit a patient's freedom to choose their physician, but it may also lead to an oversupply of physicians, especially in the primary care field. A mathematical formula based on health maintenance organizations indicates that managed competition would increase physician-patient ratios from 800 patients per physician to 250 patients per physician. Additionally, fee-for-service physicians would have to increase service rates to maintain accustomed income levels.
