Factors influencing effective independent nurse prescribing
Article Abstract:
Reasons why nurses do not prescribe in spite of completing a nurse-prescribing course were examined and it was observed that lack of peer supervision, inadequate knowledge of pharmacology and the limited formulary affected independent nurse prescribing. The situation is expected to improve with the welcome recommendations from the Committee on Safety of Medicines wherein suitably qualified and trained nurses may prescribe any medicine from the BNF manual with the exception of controlled drugs.
