Applying Peplau's theory in psychiatric nursing practice
Article Abstract:
Hildegard Peplau's work on psychiatric nursing is mostly unrevised, but remains are relevant now as when it was first published in 1952. Her theory places emphasis on building relationships and mutual growth between nurse and patient, but her work is often rejected in favour of the rating scales and prescriptions of cognitive behaviorists. From experience, it is shown that most psychiatric nurses would prefer to be prescriptive and task-oriented.

An evaluation of nursing tasks in psychiatric care
Article Abstract:
Personal care tasks are the most common tasks performed by psychiatric nursing staff, according to a survey of 492 nurses on long-term hospital wards in the Netherlands. Psychosocial tasks are the next common duties, followed by household and organisational jobs. Nurses' performance of tasks depends on their hospital, job and experience.
