Federal funding for HIV/AIDS in jeopardy?
Article Abstract:
Legislators trying to remove $1.3 trillion from the federal budget may cut spending for treatment and prevention of HIV and AIDS. Predictions of a 20% decline in new cases partly result from changes in statistical methodology used by the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention. As illustrated by the resurgence of tuberculosis after it seemed to have disappeared, slashing funds for treatment and control of HIV/AIDS may prove to be dangerous.

Agency shifts focus of guidelines work to research
Article Abstract:
The Agency for Health Care Policy and Research (AHCPR) has changed its position on developing medical research guidelines and is implementing an "Evidence-Based Practice Program," which will include reports from research centers on existing data for medical topics. The AHCPR also plans an all-inclusive national guidelines clearinghouse, and is soliciting support from other national health groups to that end.
