Good morning, campers: There are worse ways for nurses to spend the Christmas holidays than looking after the health of merrymakers at Britain's largest holiday camp
Article Abstract:
Five nurses gave up their annual Christmas leave to spend time working at a medical centre at a Butlin's holiday camp. The centre takes on extra staff during the busy seasons, and nurses are in sol charge, apart from a daily GP surgery. Care services at the holiday camp can be arranged for those people who would not be well enough to travel abroad for a holiday, and chalets are booked each year by the Macmillan Cancer Relief Fund. Manager of the medical center, Sister Louise Greaves, believes that the work gives nurses the opportunity to relearn back-to-basics skills.

Nurses could be GPs' partners
Article Abstract:
The UK government's new White Paper on the NHS contains plans which could have a significant impact on the delivery of primary health care. These include allowing nurses to become partners in GP practices, extending services offered by GP practices and drawing up employment contracts at GP practices. The document highlights the fact that nurses could assume new roles in the provision of primary care, but leaves GPs to decide about whether to hand over responsibilities to nurses.
