Hector's house
Article Abstract:
Hector McKenzie is to become a UK peer of the realm. McKenzie is known in the nursing profession for being closely involved in the launch of clinical grading in the late 1980s. This move continues to provoke as much debate in the nursing profession as it did at the time of its introduction. McKenzie qualified as a nurse in 1961 and won a major nursing award in 1966. He became an active trade unionist and, during the 1970s, took up a full-time post in a trade union. He is currently the president of the Trades Union Congress and a fervent supporter of trade unionism for nurses.

Barrier nursing
Article Abstract:
Some nurses have discriminatory attitudes towards the disabled and this can affect the nursing care they receive. However, nurses can play an important role in challenging stereotypical attitudes and a charter has been drawn up which recommends that medical staff should take steps to remove discrimination, equal opportunity packages should be implemented and disabled people should sit on disability advisory groups. It is important that nurses do not equate disability with sickness.
