Hepatitis B immunization/prophylaxis: recommendations for adults/older adults
Article Abstract:
Up to 95% of adults can be protected from hepatitis B virus (HepB) with vaccine, although patients 40 years and older have a weaker antibody response to the vaccine. Populations at risk for HepB include sexually active homosexual or bisexual males, injection drug users, and health care workers. Persons infected with HepB by sexual or percutaneous contact can be treated with hepatitis B immune globulin, which is approximately 75% effective in preventing infection.
