Article Abstract:
The Dept of Justice is increasingly investigating physician-hospital organizations which engage in anticompetitive behaviors. The department settled a lawsuit against Woman's Physician Health Organization and the Woman's Hospital. The hospital allegedly used its physician-hospital organization to negotiate higher-than-average rates with managed care plans and discouraged physicians from referring to other hospitals.

Article Abstract:
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is considering revising its methods for determining whether ventures between physicians organizations and hospitals are anti-competitive. Proposed FTC antitrust standards would establish a rule-of-reason treatment for evaluating physician ventures. FTC guideline revisions are expected to be released in Aug 1996.
