Improving the palliative care process
Article Abstract:
The palliative care process in Britain could be improved in several ways to help the patient and carer in practical and emotional ways. Many carers are married to the patient, and would benefit from extra nursing help despite their frequent desire to manage without community nursing services. Carers and patients often believe that additional services or medical aid are not available because they haven't been informed of them. Nursing staff should monitor this situation closely to assess individual needs and offer appropriate help where possible.

Deep-vein thrombosis: the shift to outpatient care
Article Abstract:
Sufferers of deep-vein thrombosis can now be treated as outpatients as a result of a new treatment by low molecular-weight heparin, injected on a daily basis. They can receive the injections at home, in their doctor's surgery or at a hospital outpatients' clinic. Two hospitals involved in the new treatment are Basildon and Thurrock NHS Trust and Southampton General Hospital, both of which report high patient satisfaction.
