Isolated small intestinal segments support auxiliary livers with maintenance of hepatic functions
Article Abstract:
The functional integrity of auxiliary livers in containers fashioned from the small intestine is determined. Hepatic metabolic, transport and synthetic functions are preserved in auxiliary liver and the ability to produce functionally competent auxiliary livers in vascularized intestinal segments offers therapeutic potential for liver disease and genetic deficiency.

Cheating death in the liver

Hepatocyte transplantation in a model of toxin-induced liver disease: variable therapeutic effect during replacement of damaged parenchyma by donor cells
Article Abstract:
Liver cells from mice without liver disease transplanted to mice with liver damage take time to reestablish parenchymal architecture. Many non-surviving mice showed moderate repopulation of liver cells from donor cells.
