A report published by NHS employers showed how a cutback in nursing staff by trusts overwhelmed by financial problems will pressurize the remaining staff and reduce the quality of patient care is presented. Measures are expected to be taken to give more power to the nurses left behind and to scrutinize patient services, but the question persists as to how a diminishing workforce will manage an ever-increasing patient demand.
