Jobs at risk for HIV-infected doctors
Article Abstract:
Physicians who are infected with HIV are subject to conflicting state and federal policies over whether they should be allowed to practice or not. The American Medical Assn advises healthcare workers with HIV to report their condition to health authorities privately so that job-restricting loss of skill can be monitored. The Michigan Dept of Public Health notes that figures for patients dying from adverse drug reactions or from general anesthesia are far greater than those dying of the HIV virus contracted from a healthcare worker.

Boston market shows doctors can succeed as employees
Article Abstract:
More than 50% of the physicians in Massachusetts are employees rather than solo practitioners and of those physicians five years out of residency, 75% are on payroll. The experience in Massachusetts indicates that physicians can succeed as employees. Preserving medical education, learning from other service-based industries, and retaining the hallmarks of private practice are parts of the medical care model that needs preservation in this area.
