Kaiser feels market crunch, HMO sees its first-ever loss
Article Abstract:
Kaiser Foundation Health Plans Inc. will lose between $30 million and $50 million in 1997, the first loss for the largest nonprofit health maintenance organization in the US. The losses are attributed to fewer Medicare enrollees than expected, higher medical claims costs than projected, high pharmaceutical costs and lower revenue per member than expected. There were also charges due to the merger of the northern and southern California operations.

Taking pulse of profession, public: managed care, end-of-life treatment among topics in AMA poll
Article Abstract:
A new survey of 1,004 physicians reveals that they are less negative about managed care, but they continue to believe that it is the main problem within the health care industry. Another survey indicates that rising costs is the worst problem. The survey was conducted in 1997 by Gordon S. Black Corp for the American Medical Association. Negative responses about managed care decreased from an earlier survey.
