Seeing things in black and white
Article Abstract:
Nurses need to improve communication skills when dealing with families from ethnic minority groups. Care by a black nurse is usually encouraged by ethnic families, who find white nurses may question their values and caring abilities. Cultural and racial issues should be addressed in nurse education, enabling trainee nurses to deal with issues surrounding race in a positive and appropriate manner. Nurse trainers may lack the understanding needed to teach racial issues.

Letter from America
Article Abstract:
There appears to be a wide gap between the methods used to teach nursing students in the UK and the USA. Nurses in the USA are taught to empower patient with knowledge, letting them make decisions and providing support through education. Nurses are also encouraged to experience all aspects of the profession before settling on one discipline, whereas UK nurses specialize from an early stage of their training.
