The CARM approach
Article Abstract:
Northern Regional Alcohol and Drug Service has introduced the Computer Assisted Relapse Management (CARM) programme for rehabilitation therapy. Psychologist, Fred Yates devised the programme that assists clients understand their problems and devise coping strategies. However, some may need assistance to avoid failing. A pilot study of 30 clients has proved the programme useful although 20 indicated they welcomed therapist input. The programme is easy to use but potential associated costs may deter its widespread application.

Wight Scientific's 90 pound sterling Paperbase De Luxe set of software programs enables the setting up and interrogation of a bibliographic database on a desktop PC. Suitable for people wanting to keep track of references when writing a paper or doing research work, the extremely functional programs handle the compiling of lists of references as well as basic information storage and retrieval. Although not sophisticated, the programs are well supported and can be shared amongst people who work together.

How to ... use questioning in the classroom
Article Abstract:
The use of questioning in the classroom and the need for teachers to improve their methods of questioning is discussed. Various methods are described, including outlining the purpose of key questions, making sure they are distributed evenly in the classroom and prompting students for more detailed responses.
