Living with childhood cancer: care of children with cancer is a specialist area of nursing
Article Abstract:
The way a family's life has been totally altered due to their daughter having sarcoma of the liver, is described. Before the diagnosis doctors claimed that the symptons were imaginary, and after the diagnosis she was frequently ill and on returning home she was treated differently by parents, grandparents, her sister and school friends. There are often misunderstandings during the early symptons of childhood cancer and parents and children should be listened to carefully during investigations. The family was confused by the numerous different diagnoses leading to loss of confidence, mistrust, anger and guilt.
