Low blood-sugar blues: the consequences of crash diets
Article Abstract:
Low blood glucose can have serious health implications for bodybuilders who engage in crash diets. An experiment conducted by researchers at Tohoku University Graduate School in Japan shows that low blood sugar or hypoglycemia resulted in skeletal muscle damage in rats. The results of the study should serve as a warning to bodybuilders who resort to diets that are low in carbohydrates and fats but high in protein.
