Maternal-fetal transfer and amniotic fluid accumulation of lamivudine in human immunodeficiency virus-infected pregnant women
Article Abstract:
The AIDS drug lamivudine appears to cross the placenta when used by HIV-infected pregnant women. In a study of 57 pregnant women who were taking lamivudine, drug levels in amniotic fluid during delivery were five times higher than in the mother's blood. The drug was also found in the newborn baby's blood.

Maternal-fetal transfer of saquinavir studied in the ex vivo placental perfusion model
Article Abstract:
The AIDS drug saquinavir does not seem to cross the placenta in substantial amounts, according to a study of placental tissue. This means the drug can be used during pregnancy without causing any adverse effect on the fetus.

Placental transfer of lopinavir/ritonavir in the ex vivo human cotyledon perfusion model
Article Abstract:
Study is presented to determine the placental transfer of the human immunodeficiency virus protease inhibitor with ritonavir. The conclusion reveals that the placental transfer of lopinavir, a highly protein-bound molecule, is compatible with passive diffusion of the unbound fraction.
