Meeting the health care needs of people with learning disabilities: there have long been gaps in health care provision for people with learning disabilities. But why are they continuing?
Article Abstract:
There have been continuing gaps in health care provision for people with learning disabilities, particularly concerning problems with sight, mobility, nutrition and hearing. A study into how primary health care teams perceive the needs of adults with learning disabilities found a limited awareness of specific requirements, and negative views on community integration. Better collaboration with primary health care teams was reported by home managers, and the data indicated an overall agreement on how important primary health care is for people with learning disabilities.

Better cervical screening for women with learning disability
Article Abstract:
There needs to be better access to cervical screening, and various agencies need to be involved, particularly in the case of women with learning disabilities, according to an internal audit by Horizon National Health Service Trust, Radlett, UK. It appears that women with learning disabilities are deprived of access to screening programmes because of assumptions without foundation among the medical profession and carers that they cannot participate.
