MicroRNA target predictions in animals
Article Abstract:
Computational and experimental analyses suggest that at least a certain class of conserved microRNAs (miRNAs) can be confidently predicted and that this class of targets is large, covering at least 30% of all human genes when considering about 60 conserved vertebrate miRNA gene families. It is likely that by integrating mRNA and miRNA sequence and expression data with other comparative genomic data, global and specific insights into the function and evolution of a broad layer of post-transcriptional control can be gained.

Exogenous control of mammalian gene expression via modulation of translational termination
Article Abstract:
A system is described for the exogenous control of gene expression in mammalian cells that rely on the control of translational termination, by modifying protein-coding sequences. Expression of the gene product can be controlled by treating cells that express the mRNA with either amino glycoside antibiotics or several nonantibiotic compounds, and regulation can be achieved in the case of a variety of genes in different cultured cell lines and in primary cells in vivo.

Treasures and traps in genome-wide data sets: Case examples from yeast
Article Abstract:
The uncertainties that are present in the data sets that contain large volumes of reliable and valuable biological information are discussed. The human and mouse genomic data sets can be used for further research but they may also contain uncertainties and limitations similar to the results from the yeast data set.
