Clinical evaluation of ceftibuten in gonorrhea: a pilot study in Hong Kong
Article Abstract:
The increasing resistance of Neisseria gonorrhoeae to such drugs as quinolone has made it crucial to find an effective substitute, such as ceftibuten, for treating simple gonococcal urethritis. In a test of 125 men in Hong Kong, the use of 400 mg. of ceftibuten, a third-generation cephalosporin, was highly effective, providing an overall cure rate of 98.2%. Side effects were mild and minimal.
