Researchers focus on improving treatments for acute ischemic stroke
Article Abstract:
Progress in treatment of acute ischemic stroke has been slow over the past decade, however, researchers are optimistic that there will be rapid strides made in the treatment of ischemic stroke soon. Researchers cite several promising new approaches administered either alone or in combination with other therapies such as intra-arterial delivery of small doses of tPA to the clot site later than 3 hours after stroke onset, mechanical retrieval or breakup of clots and development of neuroprotective drugs to lessen the risk of further stroke damage.

Researchers explore tools to identify individuals at risk for heart disease
Article Abstract:
Researchers are exploring ways to identify individuals at risk for heart disease, such as a test for cholesterol in skin tissue. They believe that there is a great need for a simple and noninvasive marker for cardiovascular risk that can be used in an office setting.
