New face to fight nursing's corner
Article Abstract:
David Thompson has been appointed as a professor of nursing research within the Department of Health. Thompson has a strong background in research and development and he will be a protagonist for nursing, health visiting and midwifery. Thompson believes that research has to be linked to clinical practice and, in his new post, he will be set up a committee to look at how nurses can integrate research into their working lives and gain recognition from other medical disciplines for the work they do.

Rheumatology: the role of the nurse
Article Abstract:
Nurses are important to the care for patients with long-term rheumatological conditions. They should attempt to help patients understand their condition and set reasonable goals. Nursing care objectives include helping the patient develop coping mechanisms, working to preserve joint mobility and involving the family. Some of the problems experienced by patients include a loss of energy, pain and poor nutrition.

The rheumatology community nurse
Article Abstract:
Issues concerning the importance of the creation of a position of community nurse specialized in rheumatology are discussed. Particular attention is given to the role of home assessments which the rheumatology nurse can carry out in order to identify problems.
