Not selling out
Article Abstract:
An increasing number of physicians are contracting with Cornerstone Physician Corp. because of the autonomy the company grants them in running their practices when they join. The Irvine, CA-based physician management company has signed multiyear contracts with physicians groups in Zanesville, OH, and Tucson, AZ, and is in the final stages of negotiating contracts with two southern Virginia physician groups. Analysts question whether Conerstone will still be able to provide the operative leeway to its affiliated physicians once it becomes a publicly traded company in 1997.

Through greatest adversity comes greatest progress
Article Abstract:
Challenges for physicians with the advent of managed care include lessening physician autonomy, adequate compensation and changing accountability standards. Solutions lie in the ability of physicians to be strong decisionmakers and share their knowledge for greater efficiency. The American Medical Assn and the Medical Group Management Assn are working together to create changes.
