Nursing data sets are finally beginning to catch up to technology's promise
Article Abstract:
The nursing profession needs a minimum data set involving a uniform set of terms and definitions in nursing data information systems. A complete data set can provide information concerning nurses' contribution to patient care and hospital administration. Though previously nurses have not created a set of universally agreed-upon terms, the American Nurses Association has initiated a mapping system which accepts a variety of terms within a unified database. This system can lead to better understanding of nursing practices and better representation of nurses in medical and information technology.
