Things are looking up
Article Abstract:
Two UK nurses describe their experiences as specialized ophthalmic nurses. They have developed a new service to cater for patients who have had day eye surgery. The nurses visited eye surgery patients in their homes, the day following surgery. Previously the patients would have been required to attend the hospital the morning after undergoing surgery. Some 76.9% of patients, who were asked, felt it was very important for them not to have to travel to hospital the day after surgery. The new service also reduced the work of junior doctors. The nurses hope their role will be further extended.

The impact of new scope
Article Abstract:
Researchers into the influence of the UKCC's 1992 Scope of Professional Practice, on UK nurses, found around 33% of those questioned were not aware the document existed. Around 50% reported that the Scope document had influenced their work as nurses. The document has a very important role in helping nurses working in an increasingly pressurized medical care service. The document was published to help nurses develop their role and to give them additional support. Some 34% of the 10,000 nurses canvassed responded to a questionnaire on the usage and value of Scope.
