Operation zero tolerance
Article Abstract:
UK nursing trusts are seeking to reduce the number of assaults on nursing staff by up to 30% by the year 2001, by introducing a strategy of zero tolerance of violent incidents. Nursing staff find more stress is caused by the threat of violence within the workplace situation, rather than the actual occurrence. Up to 50% of nurses reported being assaulted when a survey of 1,000 nurses was carried out, with up to 85% of nursing staff claiming to have been verbally abused during a 12 month period.
