Opiate of the people
Article Abstract:
A rise in the number of people developing an interest in, and benefiting from, alternative medicines could be put down to greater awareness of spiritual and personal health, as the majority of alternative therapies have little scientific evidence to back them up. People tend to assume alternative medicine works for them because they have had time to relax, unwind and reduce stress levels which contribute to a feeling of overall ill health. The benefits of such therapies may be many but scientifically there is no evidence to prove any of them work on a truly medical basis.

Verdict: not proven
Article Abstract:
Iridology, Kirlian photography, and radionics are three alternative diagnostic techniques. Iridology involves the analysis of the iris of the eye as a reflection of the body as a whole. Discolorations and markings on the iris can represent various conditions. Radionics is based on radiesthesia, which uses dowsing and a pendulum for diagnosis. The history of all three techniques is given.

Weed control: one-time cannabis fan Christopher Luke argues that it must not be legalised for anything but proven therapeutic purposes
Article Abstract:
A consultant in A&E medicine is opposed to an relaxation of rules governing the use of cannabis.
