Pelvic support defects and visceral and sexual function in women treated with sarcospinous ligament suspension and pelvic reconstruction
Article Abstract:
Women having sacrospinous ligament suspension and pelvic reconstruction may develop vaginal prolapse over time. Researchers followed up 243 women who had had this procedure to correct vaginal prolapse for an average of 74 months. At one year, 88% of the women were free of problems, but by five years, 20% of the group had developed a second degree prolapse or more or were experiencing urinary, bowel, or sexual function symptoms, rising to half the group by ten years. Five percent of the group had subsequent pelvic reconstructive surgery.

Functional bowel and anorectal disorders in patients with pelvic organ prolapse and incontinence
Article Abstract:
A study to determine the functional bowel and anorectal disorders in patients with pelvic organ prolapse and incontinence is presented. There is a high prevalence of constipation and anorectal pain disorders in women with urinary incontinence and pelvic organ prolapse, but constipation is not related to the stage of pelvic organ prolapse.
