Pena seeks new levels of safety
Article Abstract:
Transportation Sec. Federico Pena wants to achieve zero crashes in aviation and to reduce the fatality rate in traffic collisions as part of his campaign to improve transportation safety. The Dept. of Transportation has met with various aviation interests to look for ways to improve aviation safety. It is also emphasizing random alcohol testing as a way to reduce traffic accidents. Pena firmly supports plans for an intelligent-vehicle highway system, but opposes the Clinton administration's proposal to spin off the Federal Aviation Administration's air traffic control into a quasi-government agency.
