Postherpetic neuralgia: A care study
Article Abstract:
The case of a patient suffering pain from shingles, known as postherpetic neuralgia (PHN), and the treatment is discussed. The neuralgia is thought to be linked with changes to the thresholds of sensory modalities. The shingles was affecting the patient's face, including her eye, leading to spasms. The patient was admitted for a stellate ganglion block and for antidepressant drug therapy, which alleviated her PHN.

Gabapentin (Neurontin) for chronic pain
Article Abstract:
Gabapentin is a drug approved by the FDA only for the treatment of partial epilepsy and postherpetic neuralgia but has many off label uses such as it is effective for treatment of both depression and mania in bipolar disorder. It is concluded that the drug can cause dizziness, somnolence and confusion especially at higher doses.
