Prescription-drug prices
Article Abstract:
A prescription-drug benefit is added to the Medicare program through the Medicare Modernization Act that helps in reshaping the government's role as a payer for prescription drugs. The prices that the government pays for prescription drugs would be critically important, as they would affect the cost of the new drug benefit, the financial stability of the Medicare program, and incentives for prescription-drug manufacturers to develop new pharmaceutical agents.

The mechanisms by which some drugs damage the liver are reviewed. Topics include hepatic biotransformation, types of reactions, targets of cell injury, clinical consequences, acetaminophen toxicity, drug-related liver damage in patients with liver disease, and the diagnosis and treatment of drug-induced liver damage. In the late 1990s, Duract and Rezulin were both withdrawn from the market because they caused liver damage in some patients.

Drugs and the QT interval-caveat doctor
Article Abstract:
A number of drugs are removed from the market or required to include 'black box' warnings on their labels because of the potential for drug-induced prolongation of the QT interval. It is suggested that the patients with other preexisting drug-related or non-drug-related risk factors should use QT-interval-prolonging drugs very cautiously after weighing the benefits and risks on a case-by-case basis.
