Pressing problem
Article Abstract:
The incidence of pressure sores must be cut down, as it is costing the National Health Service (NHS) 60 million pounds sterling annually, according to Health Services for Physically Disabled People Aged 16 to 64, a report by the National Audit Office. The Dept of Health aims to achieve between a 5-10% decrease in pressure sore cases. Under-reporting of pressure sores is a problem, as nurses feel guilty if their patients get them, according to Maureen Benbow, clinical wound care nurse at Leighton Hospital in Crewe, UK. Around 20% of health authorities are currently operating a policy on pressure sore prevention, according to Madeleine Flanagan, the Wound Care Society's chairwoman. Cases of pressure sores are likely to grow in the community in future, says Benbow.

Therapeutic touch
Article Abstract:
Therapeutic touch (TT) is a therapy based on the notion that disturbances within an individual's energy field make that person ill. A TT practitioner aims to rebalance or 'repattern' the field through the interaction between the practitioner's field and the patient's field. TT does not use physical contact: the practitioner simply passes his arms along the length of the patient's body. TT practitioners claim that psychotic conditions are the only health problems which cannot be alleviated by TT.
