Worrying policy
Article Abstract:
The Assn of British Insurers, claiming to act for 450 insurance companies, is being criticized by staff in genitourinary clinics over its distribution of some 10,000 leaflets about HIV testing. The leaflets have been sent to the clinics following a successful pilot distribution at St Stephen's, Westminster and Charing Cross genitourinary clinics, where patients were shown to be more likely to undergo HIV testing after reading the leaflet. However, some nurses are afraid that it may offer false reassurance to patients who may believe that they will not face any problems if applying for future life insurance after taking the test.
