Profiling: getting into the habit of making connections
Article Abstract:
Many UK nurses encounter considerable challenges when attempting to compile their personal professional profile. They recognize that this is a necessary task, but often find that they lack the time and energy to undertake it. Further problems can arise for nurses who have had experiences which have no direct links with nursing but have assisted in their overall development. It is important to recognize that there is no standard way of approaching the personal professional profile. The main stages of profiling are reviewing experience to date, self-appraisal and setting goals.

Getting involved in curriculum planning
Article Abstract:
Knowledge of the language and culture of curriculum development will help clinical nurses who become involved in this important task. Their involvement is vital, as it ensures that courses are relevant to the nursing role of the future. Curriculum planners focus on a model. Nurse educators often use the Lawton and Skilbeck model which begins with an analysis of the culture and moves on to development of the aims and desired learning outcomes of the course. Planners can then consider practical aspects including the course content, teaching methods and assessment strategy.

Check the quality not the length
Article Abstract:
Nursing students need to be provided with appropriate supervision during periods of clinical placement training. Plans by UK nurse training organisations to lengthen the time nurses spend on placement training schemes may be wasted as without proper supervision practical training can not take place. More attention needs to be paid to the planning of nurses education by both the National Health Service and universities.
