Prospective screening for human leukocyte antigen-B*5701 avoids abacavir hypersensitivity reaction in the ethnicity mixed French HIV population
Article Abstract:
The high specificity of human leukocyte antigen-B*5701 in the ethnically mixed French population is confirmed and a rapid and inexpensive polymerase chain reaction strategy is used to evaluate the predictiveness of B*5701 screening. The incidence of hypersensitivity before and after screening and the rate of unwarranted interruptions of abacavir therapy have decreased, thereby recommending the implementation of this cost-effective screen before treatment with abacavir.

Obtaining HIV test results with a home collection test kit in a community telephone sample
Article Abstract:
Many gay men might agree to test themselves for HIV infection at home using the Orasure home collection kit. This was the conclusion of a study of 615 gay men who were contacted by phone and offered the kit by mail. Sixty-seven percent received the kit and returned their blood sample for processing.

Repeat screening for HIV: when to test and why
Article Abstract:
A mathematical model is presented to determine how frequently to test people at high risk of HIV infection in areas where the infection is not common. The model balances the cost of testing against the cost of an undetected infection.
