Recombinant modified vaccinia virus Ankara expressing antigen 85A boosts BCG-primed and naturally acquired antimycobacterial immunity in humans
Article Abstract:
The results of a series of phase I studies in human volunteers evaluating the safety and immunogenicity of modified vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA) expressing antigen 85A (MVA85A) first in BCG-naive healthy volunteers and subsequently in volunteers who are vaccinated with BCG 0.5-38 years previously is reported. The findings show that immunization with MVA85A boosts the preexisting antimycobacterial immunity induced by BCG in these volunteers.

Enhanced T-cell immunogenicity of plasmid DNA vaccines boosted by recombinant modified vaccinia virus Ankara in humans
Article Abstract:
A heterologous prime-boost vaccination regime of DNA either intramuscularly or epidermally, followed by intradermal recombinant modified vaccinia virus Ankara (MVA), induces antigen-specific T-cell responses in humans. A basis for preventive and therapeutic vaccination in humans may be provided by such heterologous prime-boost immunization approaches.

A CD4+ T-cell immune response to a conserved epitope in the circumsporozoite protein correlates with protection from natural Plasmodium falciparum infection and disease
Article Abstract:
Interferon-gamma-secreting CD4(super +) Tcells is detected for a conserved sequence from the circumsporozite protein that bids to many human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DR types. Findings are presented that proves a protective role of CD4(super +) Tcells in humans and a precise target for design of improved vaccines against Plasmodium falciparum.
