Resistance to activated protein C and the Leiden mutation: high prevalence in patients with abruptio placentae
Article Abstract:
The Leiden mutation may be responsible for some cases of abruptio placentae. Abruptio placentae occurs when the placenta separates from the uterine wall before the baby is delivered. This can result in hemorrhage, which can be serious enough to kill both mother and baby. Researchers tested 27 pregnant women with abruptio placentae and 29 healthy pregnant women for the Leiden mutation, which affects blood coagulation factor V. Thirty percent of the women with abruptio placentae had the mutation, compared to 3% of the healthy women.

Fetal transcerebellar diameter measurement for prediction of gestational age in twins
Article Abstract:
A study is illustrated to see whether an accurate prediction of gestational age (GA) both in monochorionic and dichorionic twin gestations is derived with the help of transcerebellar diameter (TCD) nomogram from singleton pregnancies. It is recommended that TCD for prediction of GA proved to be the most important ultrasound biometric parameter in both singleton and twins and that more accuracy could be obtained if TDC results were incorporadted with other fetal biometric parameters.

Risk factors of abruptio placentae among Peruvian women
Article Abstract:
The study is carried out to examine the relation of maternal sociodemographic, medical and behavioral characteristics with risk of abruptio placentae in Peruvian women. It is concluded that the constellation of abruptio placentae risk factors do not provide clinically meaningful opportunities for identifying high-risk patients.
