Right to assisted suicide may undermine end-of-life care
Article Abstract:
Rulings from the 2nd and 9th US Circuit Courts of Appeal have been analyzed by Bernard Lo and Ann Alpers of the University of California, San Francisco, and they have concluded that the rulings may not enhance terminal care. The opinions are confusing, and that neither medicine nor law can provide easy answers. Herbert Hendin of the New York Medical College stated in a related commentary that The Netherlands may have better terminal care standards.

Is your medical facility becoming obsolete?
Article Abstract:
Healthcare industry trends including horizontal and vertical integration, managed care, capitated contracts, and computerization are contributing to the obsolescence of some physicians' and medical groups' facilities. Medical facilities should be conveniently located, should have standardized examination, office and support areas, and should have centrally located support services. Other facility-design factors are discussed.
