Serum phospholipid fatty acid composition and habitual intake of marine foods registered by a semi-quantitative food frequency questionnaire
Article Abstract:
Some 234 women were studied to assess the relation of fish and fish product consumption with the composition of fatty acids in serum phospholipids. Results showed a weak association between the total frequency consumption of fish for dinner with serum phospholipid fatty acid composition. Fatty fish consumption was associated with fatty acids in serum phospholipids even as no such association was observed for lean fish consumption. These imply that, through a food frequency questionnaire, habitual intake of fish and fish products can be seen in the serum phospholipid fatty acid composition.

Plasma amino acids in anorexia nervosa
Article Abstract:
The amino acid status of teenage girls with anorexia nervosa was investigated. A sample of 92 female adolescents were recruited in the study in which their plasma amino acid levels were measured and compared to those of a healthy population. Results showed that hyperaminoacidemia is prevalent among adolescent girls with anorexia nervosa. It was also found that the plasma amino profile in subjects differs from those of other severe malnutrition states, indicating a marasmic pattern of balanced protein-energy undernutrition.

No effect of human serum and erythrocytes enriched in n-3 fatty acids by oral intake on Plasmodium falciparum bloodstage parasites in vitro
Article Abstract:
The intake of dietary fish oil with a vitamin E diet does not help in controlling malaria. Human serum and erythrocytes were separated from the blood of a donor before and after the consumption of fish oil which was supposed to provide protection against malaria parasites. There was no inhibitory effect of the serum or erythrocytes on the in vitro growth and multiplication of falciparum.
