Sexual behavior and pregnancy outcome in HIV-infected women
Article Abstract:
A diagnosis of HIV appears to alter women's sexual behavior, reduce pregnancies, and increase the incidence of abortions. Researchers surveyed 392 HIV-infected women in Canada, and found that 71% were sexually active and 90% were using contraception consistently. Condoms were used with 58% of steady male sexual partners, and with 66% of casual sexual partners. The rate of pregnancy fell markedly after women were diagnosed with HIV, and the use of abortion services more than tripled.

Characterization of sera from subjects infected with HIV-1 subtypes B and E in Thailand by antibody binding and neutralization
Article Abstract:
The HIV-1 viral subtypes B and E appear to be relatively similar. Researchers analyzed antibody responses in 138 Thais infected with subtype E and 24 infected with subtype B. In blood samples, the two subtypes produced similar antibody responses. However, when grown in T cell cultures, a different antibody response could be seen between the two subtypes. This means that an AIDS vaccine might be effective against both subtypes.

Factors associated with HIV-infected patients' recognition and use of HIV medications
Article Abstract:
Many HIV patients have never heard of nor used AIDS medications. A survey of 224 HIV-infected patients found that African Americans, women and people with only a high school education or less were more likely not to know about the most commonly used AIDS drugs. Of 221 who knew of at least one drug, all but two had taken one or more AIDS drugs.
