Shaking up hemodialysis: guidelines may overhaul care for renal disease
Article Abstract:
The National Kidney Foundation is developing guidelines for treating renal disease in conjunction with medial associations, managed care companies and patient-advocacy groups. The guidelines, which are expected to be finalized in Apr 1997, are likely to be adopted as the Health Care Financing Administration is the primary payer for dialysis therapy. The guidelines include recommendations to begin dialysis sooner and give patients Epogen to alleviate anemia.
