Smooth muscle myosin heavy chain and caldesmon expression in the anterior vaginal wall of women with and without pelvic organ prolapse
Article Abstract:
Women with pelvic organ prolapse are more likely to have increased amounts of a protein called caldesmon in vaginal smooth muscle tissue. Caldesmon regulates the contraction of smooth muscle, and increased amounts could cause the muscle to become weak.

Effect of periurethral denervation on smooth muscles of the lower urinary tract
Article Abstract:
The effect of periurethral denervation on contractile function of the smooth muscle of the lower urinary tract of the female rat is determined. Periurethral nerve transection results in transient impairment of neurogenic contractile responses in the bladder base and dome, though the instrinsic ability of the bladder to contract remains intact.

Vascular anatomy over the superior pubi rami in female cadavers
Article Abstract:
A study to characterize the vascular anatomy over the superior pubic ramus is presented. Communicating vessels crossing the superior pubic rami are present in the majority of specimens and understanding this anatomy would help the surgeon in avoiding vascular complications.
