Stem cells - why wait?
Article Abstract:
The National Institutes of Health have established moral and ethical guidelines for stem cell research. Once in effect, these guidelines remain less valuable until the US Congress lifts restrictions on creating embryonic stem cell lines by scientists whose research is federally funded.

Polio eradication: the endgame
Article Abstract:
The World Health Organization in 1988 began a campaign to eradicate polio by 2000 and wild-type virus for at least 3 years afterwards. The campaign, while not entirely successful, has spent $2.5 bil and has decreased paralytic polio cases by 95%.
