Final conflict
Article Abstract:
Both Scotland's and England's history was deeply affected by the Battle of Culloden in 1746 between the Stuarts and the Hanoverians, the last land battle on English soil. Charles Edward Stuart, or Bonnie Prince Charlie, had led his Highlander clansmen to several victories prior to their battle against the English on April 16, 1746. English Redcoats, under the command of the Duke of Cumberland, used bayonets to beat the Scots, who lost 1000 men. The British took over the Highlands region, eventually banning traditional dress and ending the clan system.

Get hire
Article Abstract:
Many companies tie up vital cash by purchasing light commercial fleet vehicles instead of leasing, which offers many advantages over purchase. The UK contract hire market grew from 15,000 registrations in 1993 to 30,000 registrations in 1997. Hire firms point out the high initial loss of residual value on a new vehicle and the benefits of fixed cost budgeting which comes with hiring fleet vehicles. Firms should choose contracts which have an element of flexibility built into them, to ensure changes can be made if circumstances change.

Sterilising instruments
Article Abstract:
Many health centres are using portable sterilisers as a cheaper alternative to commercial sterilising services. A 1989 study found 48% of General Practitioners used portable sterilisers. Steam sterilisers are suitable for unwrapped instruments. Autoclavable pouches are available although inadequate instructions have caused confusion. A Department of Health publication recommends steam sterilisation only for unwrapped instruments. Use by a trained operator and regular maintenance checks are essential.
