The private sector has a focusing effect in developing, testing, manufacturing, and introducing new vaccines, but they lack the same force in the malaria vaccine, as the profits would be small. Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation is a single new donor who has contributed for most of the total annual expenditures for malaria vaccine development that has reached to $ 65million in 2003 as against $42million in 1999.

Otmar Wiestler

Otmar Wiestler, who is known for his drive and ability to drum up synergy, was the natural choice to lead Germany's largest cancer research center. Among Wiestler's major accomplishments in Bonn, Germany was the establishment of two large regional collaborative research programs - one centered on the molecular basis of human brain disorders - other on temporal lobe epilepsy.
