The debate over Medicare private contracting may be resolved with readjusted physician reimbursement amounts. The Health Care Financing Administration opposes private contracting due to claims sorting complications, but acknowledges that sufficient reimbursement would reduce the need for private contracting. Medical professionals, however, view the debate as a patients' rights issue.

More Medicare codes, more pay for house calls
Article Abstract:
The US Health Care Financing Administration has expanded its Medicare home visit codes from six to nine to reflect home care services available more accurately. The doctors of Medicare patients will receive higher reimbursements for making house calls. Payments to physicians who visit stable Medicare patients at home will increase from approximately $45 to over $140 per visit.
