T cells take the inside track
Article Abstract:
A depth study into the fast moving field of mucosal immunology is conducted using some sharp immunological tools which showed that key influenza-specific [CD8.sup.8] T cells could remain locked into a circuit within the chest, never reaching the bloodstream or the peripheral lymphoid tissue but instead cycling between the respiratory mucosa and the local lymph nodes. This the latest in a series of studies showing the way dynamic and co-ordinated the movement of cells between the respiratory mucosa and the local lymph node could be.

Tumor-targeted, systemic delivery of therapeutic viral vectors using hitchhiking on antigen-specific T cells
Article Abstract:
A simple and effective method to load antigen-specific T cells with retroviral vectors which are subsequently released from the T-cell surface at the tumor site after in vivo T-cell transfer in fully immunocompetent hosts is described. It is shown that antigen-specific, primary T cells, of both mouse and human origin, could be incubated in vitro with retroviral stocks, which adhere to the cell surface.

Natural regulatory T cells control the development of atherosclerosis in mice
Article Abstract:
Artheroschlerosis is an immunoinflammatory disease caused due to the accumulation of lipids in the artery wall, leading to myocardial infarction and stroke. A specific subset of CD4+ T cells called natural regulatory cells play an important role in the development of atheroschlerotic lesions.
