Taking positive action
Article Abstract:
Nurses are in a good position to educate patients on measures to prevent the spread of HIV in the community. However, the widespread media coverage of the the case of Roy Cornes, an HIV-positive hemophiliac from Birmingham, England, who infected a number of partners with HIV has again spotlighted the lack of control procedures. The cases raises questions about whether health care workers have enough information that they are prepared to contribute in preventing the spread of HIV. Information on how to counsel children facing the death of a loved one from AIDS is also included.

So you want to be a ... hypnotherapist
Article Abstract:
Nurses who are interested in becoming hypnotherapists are advised to look at college prospectuses rather than correspondence courses because it is better to learn via contact with other people. Training is not regulated but many organisations, such as the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis, have a register of students who have completed courses. It is better to study part-time and gradually develop a practice rather than leave work and try to set up a full-time practice. It is advisable to qualify in psychotherapy or counselling before becoming a hypnotherapist.
