Texas doctors fighting Medicaid HMO plan
Article Abstract:
Over 1,000 Texas physicians at a public forum, on May 30, 1996, petitioned against the state's move to transfer 2.5 mil Medicaid recipients into health maintenance organizations (HMO). Texas plans to convert its $9 bil Medicaid program to a managed care system on a county-by-county basis by 1999. Medical personnel in Houston, TX, are concerned that the HMO approach will jeopardize patient care. Physicians there favor a modified case-management model to replace the HMO approach.

AMA backs Medicaid options, but won't fight block grants
Article Abstract:
The American Medical Assn, at its 1995 meeting, decided not to oppose a Republican plan to turn Medicaid into a block grant program, but the group also voiced its support for alternatives to Medicaid block grants. The association approved resolutions calling for a continuation of Medicaid's safety-net function and for increased federal oversight over Medicaid managed-care programs instituted by states.
